OTTAWA — New Democrat critic for Finance and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and deputy critic for Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard Guy Caron will tour the Atlantic provinces from July 24 to August 7 to present his bill (C-274) to facilitate the transfer of small businesses or family farms or fishing operations between members of the same family.

“More and more entrepreneurs across Canada are contacting us about their growing frustration with business succession. Currently, it’s more beneficial to sell your business to a stranger than to a member of your own family,” said Guy Caron. “My bill, which will be debated in the fall, will allow owners and buyers in the same family to enjoy the same rights and privileges as those for a transaction between strangers.”

Guy Caron will take the opportunity to meet with various stakeholders to discuss their concerns. “It’s important to sit down and listen to the stakeholder groups in our Atlantic provinces. Whether it’s about improving employment insurance benefits or the Coast Guard’s aging fleet, the NDP will be there to defend their interests,” said Guy Caron.
